What Kind of Surface Protection Do You Need for Your Remodeling Project? Post -

Unless you have all your floors and surfaces within the renovation area covered completely, the dust, debris and spillage will ruin them, thus adding tremendously to your total renovation expenses. It is therefore important to figure out the kind of surface protection that you need to adequately protect what needs protecting. As the protection materials and products vary widely, depending on the surface and the nature of the remodeling project itself, here is an introduction to surface protection solutions in the market.

Painter Boards

Painter boards are ideal when you want breathable surface protection that will also allow the floor to cure. Trimaco X-Board Paint + Remodel comes equipped with the company’s own custom Spill Block technology to protect against water, paint, mud and any other non-corrosive liquid damage. While it is lightweight, keep in mind that X-Board Paint + Remodel boards are still thicker (2.5 times) than builder’s paper.

Heavy Duty Surface Protection

This is what contractors use while handling big renovation projects and at construction sites to protect floors and other surfaces made out of concrete, stone, tile, linoleum, wood, VCT, epoxy, etc. Trimaco’s heavy duty surface protection board is the toughest protection that you can buy for your floors and the following should give you an idea as to why it is so:

  • It can withstand a forklift
  • Allows the floor to cure since the material is breathable
  • Trimaco’s custom Spill Block technology protects the surface from most types of liquid damage
  • Reusable, recyclable and yet thicker (4x) than red rosin paper
Floor Paper Protection

In general, contractor’s paper is adequate for basic protection while completing minor renovations, but it won’t provide too much protection against heavy debris, or even spillage for that matter. Trimaco has introduced X-Paper that is 1.5x the thickness of standard contractor’s paper which offers a bit of protection against liquid damage as well. However, paper protection in general is suited for lighter projects only.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Slip Resistant Heavy-Duty Surface Protection

The highlight features of Trimaco’s Heavy Duty SuperTuff Surface Protector are slip-resistance, impact resistance and shock absorption capabilities. Trimaco makes these entirely out of recycled PET bottles, they last a long time, and they are perfect for all types of flooring surfaces.

Flame Retardant Surface Protection

Typically used in projects where there is a chance of accidental fires, flame retardant protection is usually the most expensive of the lot, but it comes with every feature that can be expected from surface protection products. Aqua Shield surface protectors from Trimaco are flame retardant, capable of withstanding forklifts and scissor lifts, dust retardant, leakproof, and can be installed by just about anybody quite easily. It’s a better, lighter and cheaper option than Masonite which is ideal for large renovation projects in healthcare facilities and for construction sites.

This should give you at least a basic idea of what you will probably need, but it’s always better to consult with the experts to get a better idea of things first, before coming to a decision.
