“Love yourself, let people love you back. Don’t hurt nobody, don’t hurt yourself and live your best life”

In today’s fast changing world, all the media does is paint hateful pictures and make us believe as if they were real. Most of us are living in a stereotypical society where we are pushed to fit inside the box, be part of a structure with little or no freedom to creative expressions.

There’s the ugly wide world and then there are people like Jazzelle Zanaughtti who are speaking their minds through individual expression. Jazelle and her self expression resonates with over 4,00,000 followers via her instagram @UglyWorldWide.

For Jazzelle, beauty is more than just the way you look, it’s exploring how you can transform yourself; a form of meditation, self exploration and expression that lead to Jazelle discovering her own inner peace. The androgynous model was initially inspired by drag queens to get rid of her eyebrows and now she uses her hairless face as a canvas for experimental makeup looks.

In an interview with Alive magazine, Jazzelle said, “I really started expressing myself freely once I moved out of my mama’s house and to Chicago on my own when I was 17. It was an extremely liberating experience and the result is what I look like now. Not a boy or a girl, just a creature. I can be whoever I want and I love that; I feel limitless. I would describe my personal style as emotional. I dress how I feel always. It’s all about finding your moment and living in it!”.

Here’s a video covered by I-D following Jazzelle’s journey through New York City as she meets the contemporary beauty pioneers using their bodies as a canvas to challenge perceptions of traditional beauty.
