‘Houses of Fiction‘ is a brilliant series of conceptual photography by Toronto based photographer & photo-artist Julia Callon. Julia’s work consists of hybridization of photography and constructed small scale models that both challenge and explore the idea of the photographic image as a representation of reality. The stories depicted in the series demonstrate the metaphorical and literal significance of space. The series attempts to synthesize ideas and images through the process of interpretation and adaptation.
Callon was awarded as the winner of “Best in Show” for Full Frame 2011 for her image The Creative Process No. 2, from the series The Creative Process. “Julia’s methods are unassuming , yet she brings a quirky ingenuity to creating relationships that are open-ended to the creative potential in her uses of technology bridged to her expressive purpose. Her “emerging artistic practice shows promise” says Sutnik (Judge at ‘Best in Show’ at Full Frame 2011)
