Branching Table by Gradient Matter
Designer Andrei Hakhovich of San Francisco based design studio Gradient Matter has created an unique table inspired by the interpersonal relationship between two people and the numerous emotions involved in an effective communication.
“While developing the Branching Table, I thought about the relationships of one person to another as they will sit across each other, tension, attraction, repulsion, connection. I wanted to reveal it all, I had a desire to map the unseen. ” -says Andrei Hakhovich
The handcrafted table was partly inspired by the wood grain patterns of trees and tradional Japanese joinery. The table has been created from locally sourced walnut and bamboo plywood veneer, where by the two materials were joined simply with wood lap joints. The cut-outs on the table top are inserted with Plexiglass to create a flat surface to keep objects on it.
