This year, the London Design Festival featured some amazing out-of-the-box furniture designs like Ernest foldable stool designed by Craig Ernest Byrne, colorful colonial style furniture by Squint Limited and the chair installation by Nendo. But one furniture piece which stood out of all was the ‘Arc’ sideboard designed by Marco Sousa for furniture brand Bat Eye, owned by Portugal based Emotional Brands.
The satinwood sideboard is lacquered in mother-of-pearl and is covered with traditional hand-painted Portuguese tiles whose bas-relief doubles as handles to open the drawers. It completely modernised one of Portugal’s most historic decorating motifs. The credenza is set on an iron base inspired by the landmark D Luis I bridge in Porto, which was designed by Théophile Seyrig, a one-time associate of Gustav Eiffel. The ‘Arc’ sideboard is priced at Euro 8950.
