One of DZine Trip’s readers shared the link to these beautiful wooden cabins called the ‘Observatory Rooms’ built in the beautiful Elqui valley which is 110 km from La Serena city and 580 km from Santiago in Chile. These contemporary wooden cabins were built in 2005 by the owner of Elqui Domos to fulfill his passion of observing the beautiful stars in the skies of the Elqui Valley. The structure was specially designed taking into consideration the forms and philosophy of the geodesic constructions and thus the basic requirements for the final design was well defined. The bed should be located in the highest place and have a roof over it that can be opened in order to watch the stars at leisure. Besides, that all other facilities like a bathroom, living area and balcony have been provided to give you the ultimate comforts of home. Each cabin has three different levels. There is the living room and a bathroom on the first level, while the second level consists of a sleeping area with a basic bed. The third level consists of a deck which is accessible by wooden staircase.
“Elqui Domos introduced an astronomic observatory this year which consists of two domes that house Ceslestron telescopes with CGEM equatorial German frames, one of 8 inches and the other is 9 and a quarter inches. They are Schmidt-Cassegrain type telescopes. The domes are motorized and there is a digital camera for the observation of the moon and planets. This enables us to enjoy having an observatory of excellent quality just a few steps away from the rooms. Elqui Domos aims at being a magical place of rest, introspection, and observation. Our objective is to provide a unique experience in our beautiful Elqui Valley.”
