Cutting-edge technology and space-spacer solutions are the two ‘design mantras’ that contribute towards the success of any design in today’s fast paced markets. Chicago-based consumer electronics start-up Gramovox has combined the two to create a state-of-the-art turntable that plays your records vertically through built-in, dynamic, full-range stereo speakers.Gramovox’s design philosophy is to re-imagine vintage audio design with modern technology. “In this spirit, we sought to re-imagine the record player. We yearned for a visceral vinyl experience that showcased the record as both art and a medium to produce analog sound. The result is a high-performance turntable that plays your records vertically—producing the illusion that it’s floating.”, the company writes.
The Floating Record is designed for everyone from the first-time record listener to the seasonal vinyl enthusiasts. Unlike traditional record players that take up a lot of space and require additional components such as pre-amps, amps, integrated receivers, speakers and cables, the Floating Record has a compact, fully integrated design taking up minimal space and eliminating the hassle of installing a cartridge, setting the tracking force or purchasing additional speakers.Front side of the Floating Record

The device comes manufactured in an aesthetically pleasing wood base—walnut or maple. It features full-range stereo speakers, vibration-dampening feet, and an adjustable carbon-fiber tone-arm.
You can also switch between a 33 ⅓ or 45 RPM record by simply moving the silicon belt over the inner or outer groove of the middle gear.
With over 1900 backers, Gramovox has already crossed their goal of $5000 and raised $736,797 for the Floating Record through their Kickstarter campaign.
