Suite New York Thinks Pink for Breast Cancer

The colour pink has a certain appeal. While it can be playful and effervescent, it can also convey soothing comfort. Similarly, Arne Jacobsen’s Swan chair beckons sitters with its languorous lines and keeps them seated with its oddly perfect proportions and addictive swivel that allows for excellent room surveillance, especially during cocktail parties. Fittingly,Suite New York has brought the two together with its Pink Swan Project, which will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Nineteen of the industry’s finest, including Alexandra Von Furstenberg, Campion Platt, Chris Kraig, David Mann, D.B. Kim of PYR for Swarovski, Holly Fulton for Swarovski, Jamie Drake, Jonathan Adler, Julie Hillman, Karim Rashid, Kelly Hoppen, Madeline Weinrib, Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Milly De Cabrol, Nate Berkus, Simon Doonan, Vicente Wolf, Victoria Hagan, and Windsor Smith, will make their custom mark on the design icon. Three examples will be unveiled at the September 29 opening of a show of work by photographer Evelyn Lauder at the London outlet of Gagosian Gallery, after which they will join the remaining 16, which will be on rotating view at New York’s Gagosian Shop throughout the month.

The chairs will be available for purchase on the online auction site Charitybuzz. The equally iconic Fritz Hansen will provide the blank canvases for the participating designers, and Champagne Billecart-Salmon will offer bubbly refreshment (hopefully rosé) for the celebratory events.
