Slash Lamp by Dragos Motica

Can destruction be beautiful? Can destruction be constructive? Sounds like a vague or rather abstract question. Isn’t it?

Romanian designer Dragos Motica answers these questions in affirmation with his latest creation called Slash Lamp. Designed for furniture brand Ubikubi, the lamp is designed using materials found on construction sites: concrete, reinforcing wire, rope climbing, spool for high voltage wires.

The lampshade is manufactured by pouring concrete into a silicone mold and over the wire mesh. The concrete cast is air dried and polished.

The packaging comes with a small rock which could be used to smash the concrete shade to create a customized version of the lampshade and reveal the wire mesh and light bulb within. A cork core cut on a computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine can be inserted into the concrete shape to protect the light bulb from damage when the concrete is smashed.

Available in various colours, the concrete cylindrical lamp is suspended from the ceiling by a textured cord, attached to a carabiner and spool to enable its height to be adjusted.

Love the industrial vibe! Slash Lamp – Smash it to flash it!
