Swedish designer trio Claesson Koivisto Rune recently showcased their Wicker Lamp Collection at the designjunction during London Design Festival 2013. Designed for the Chilean Lighting brand Made in Mimbre, the intention behind the creation of this beautiful collection was to preserve traditional wicker weaving techniques by employing local artisans.
The collection consists of three splendid lamp designs named (in Spanish) after their resembling object: Medusa lamp resembles a jellyfish, Chinita Lamp resembles a Ladybird and Bellota Lamp resembles an acorn.
The Medusa Lamps are free standing lamps with oval shaped lampshades that seem to be supported on numerous thin, spindly supports. The designers decided to provide three hidden metal legs instead of trimming the excess lengths of wicker. The resulting design reminds us of jellyfish, floating, with their many trailing tendrils.
The Chinita Lamp is a floor lamp with a round shaped design which seems to have feet that have been stretched from the bottom edge resembling a small bug like Ladybird.
The Bellota suspension lamps consists of two similar forms combined to make a whole, but still remain independent. In keeping with the nature theme, the inspiration for the Bellota design is derived from the distinctive form of the acorn, where one form can be seen to partially cover the other.
