Furniture inspired from Oriental culture: Furniture design by Bina Baitel

Yesterday, we featured a fusion style interior design project which blended the Mediterranean and Finnish cultures and today we are featuring a similar design project which resulted from a blend of the oriental and the western cultures. Paris based designer Bina Baitel presents a very interesting collection of furniture design which have been inspired from the Oriental lifestyle of sitting on the floor for various activities like eating, reading or praying.

Her first furniture piece named  ‘Tarah’ is a steel table finished gold leaf and has a mattress made from polyurethane foam which is top-stitched with a black fabric from Danish textile brand Kvadrat. The mattress can be rolled out on the floor to create a comfortable socializing space in the living room and rolled up back on to the table to create a clear flooring space.  Inspired by the ‘Tarah’, Baitel later created the side lamp ‘Snug’ which is basically a simple study lamp made from leather. A part of the lampshade extends on the  floor and spread out like a mattress which could be used to laze around on the floor while reading a book. Take a look at some of the images below.
