Folds Collection is the latest creation by jewellery designer Lital Mendel. The jewellery contains memories. Experiences and events are embodied in a small and intimate object which holds a special meaning to its owner. Just as the Japanese culture is composed of different concepts, so does the encounter between the personal and meticulous handiwork and the modern, industrial technology creates a new complete object which holds its own merit.
The materials from which the jewellery is composed may seem to contrast first. However the folded aluminium which holds the folded paper results in a jewellery that has volume and strong construction but is almost weightless.
The use of paper led to the use of photos as the main source of colour in the work. Photographs allow the viewer a glimpse to moments in my trip to Japan, and captivate my memories of that trip. The folds distorts, chances and hides the picture, but not it’s meaning.
