An apartment with a balcony? For urban dwellers in the world’s greatest and most dense cities, this sounds like a description of a dream home. The best we can come up with is arranging a few plants in a window, or throwing the little IKEA outdoor furniture in a small outdoor corner.
I’d like you to imagine, look closely and guess what? Yes! You have a personal swimming pool in your balcony, in densely populated Mumbai! That’s exactly what Arhitect James Law proposes here. Parinee Ism is a 140 m (460 ft) tall residential tower, inspired by the 24th and last letter of the Greek Alphabet, Omega, or Ohm (Ω). If built, it will include over 200 apartments with 3 levels of car parking, sauna, sports facilities & swimming pools built into the bedroom balconies of some apartments. An egg shaped structure in between the two towers is actually a fully equipped clubhouse for the inhabitants…Any real estate investors here?
The design concept of the tower is inspired by the ripple effect generated by water droplets, which is also known as a capillary wave. The image of the ripple emphasizes fluidity, and dynamic nature of a ripple. Both the outline and surface ripple pattern can be conceived as an abstract representation of the Ohm symbol. The ripple effect usually generates a vortex-like space in the center. The tower design captures the essence of this space by creating a large void in the middle along with a specially designed drop-shaped clubhouse.
