French product designer Thomas de Lussac collaborated with renowned cabinet makers E. Chartrain, Bouhours, and Gautier of Perchebois to create a contemporary furniture piece called Table Racine Carré (translates to Square Root Table in English).

Completed over a period of eight months, the table design is primarily a union of four elements: The tree, the forest of Perche, excellent local craftsmanship and skilled labour. The project exemplifies the beauty of a tree stump located in the Perche region of northwestern France. The final work reveals the aesthetic and symbolic potential of the tree through each stage of its craft, from the initial uprooting, to the final sanding, and elegant natural table that leans upon a sole wooden leg.

Table top being connected to the tree stump through a dovetail joint

Designer Thomas de Lussac

Photography by Young-Ah Kim
