Well known for their out of the box ideas and unique installations, New York based design studio SOFTlab has combined their explorations of technology and craft to create a massive floral installation at the Brazilian boutique Melissa in New York city. Titled We Are Flowers, the installation is created with 20,000 translucent flowers that resemble a large immersive hanging surface in the New York flagship. The massive art piece is both precisely engineered and yet has the enchantment of a vibrant hanging garden.

The designers used a 4,000 piece Mylar net that was custom engineered and joined together to create the floral installation. “The engineered nature of the installation is tempered by the delicacy and exuberance of the thousands of colorful petals that are attached to the surface”, explains Michael Szivos, Creative Director of SOFTlab. “Flowers were placed in a natural arrangement to combine the flowers and structural surface in a way that resembles a natural canopy of flowers. The hanging collective drapes down through the yellow spiral staircase from the first floor, making its way into the basement level of the shop.”

We Are Flowers inspires and celebrates everything that flowers represent: beauty, femininity, emotions, women and summer.
