Dutch artist Arno Coenen in collaboration with Iris Roskam has created Netherlands’ and probably the world’s largest digital ceiling mural. The project titled “Horn of Plenty” is conceived within Netherlands’ first indoor market called Markthal. The horse-shoe shaped structure designed by MVRDV features a 40 square metre high arched ceiling which will be utilized as a canvas for the massive 11000 square metre piece of artwork featuring larger-than-life, vibrant images of fresh fruits, grains, and vegetables — symbolically linking to the harvest of goods which will be sold within the food market.

‘”You could just look at the wonderful, almost psychedelic picture for it’s beauty, but the reference to the ‘Horn of Plenty’ points out the miracle that food is there for you.” says Arno Coenen. “It is a work with a spiritual, religious feel to it. However, its larger-than-life size is not a tale of religion; it’s about nature. In the scientific way, more an ode to Stephen Hawking’s atheist way of looking at the origin of life.”

While the city of Rotterdam anxiously awaits the the opening of their first indoor food market in October 2014, for those of you who have no plans to visit the indoor market can view a 360° interior panorama
