Situated in Greenwich, Connecticut, Art Barn is a multi-functional home designed by Robert Young Architecture for a pair of artists. The 10000 sq. feet living space comprises of two large multipurpose galleries with 16-foot ceilings and polished concrete floors, and a chef’s commercial-grade kitchen. Several smaller-scaled, flexible rooms are used as ancillary studios, administrative offices, for sleeping, exercise and storage. A museum-sized elevator facilitates installation and removal of large-scale art pieces.

The building features a “green screen” made of a metal mesh installed around much of the exterior onto which white wisteria vines were planted. Over the years, the wisteria has grown and spread out through the screen to cover the entire facade – creating a living skin over the concrete-block structure.

Photography by: Michael Moran and Frank Oudeman
