Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Aberdeen<\/p><\/div>\n

The Centres are named after architect and landscape designer Maggie Jencks who died of cancer in 1995. As a cancer patient herself Maggie found hospitals grim and impersonal. \u201cWhat matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying,\u201d she once said. She believed cancer patients needed a life-affirming environment and that, Maggie said, depended upon one\u2019s physical space and by extension the design of the building itself. The centres are a continuation of her vision as realized by her husband Charles Jencks.<\/p>\n
