Singaporean artist & designer Grace Tan and her creative team at Kwodrent recently displayed a cloud-like suspended art installation called Refuge at the Singapore Art Musuem. Commissioned for the President’s Young Talents 2013, the installation is created from 1.5 million polypropylene loop pins connected together to make it resemble like a cloud.

The idea was born while Tan was at a stationary store and she noticed some price tags which reminded her of the stamen of flowers. She bought some and started experimenting with them. “It looked organic to me.” says Grace Tan. “It resembled a knitted structure and with the multiplicity of loops, it creates a beautiful form when hung.” she adds.

The entire installation was installed with some basic sketches which acted as a guideline during the installation. Refuge was created with the objective of finding beauty in the mundane and uncertainty. Having achieved the objective without a predefined visual is pretty impressive.

As part of the President’s Young Talents 2013, the installation will be on display at the Singapore Art Museum until 15th September 2013.
