Designed by Antonio Scarponi of Conceptual Devices in collaboration with visual artist Roberto De Luca, Hotello is a portable room concept created with the aim of making use of abandoned spaces consisting of warehouses, factories and military barracks. The 4 sq. metre (43 sq. feet) space is made from a metal framework and sound-absorbing curtains and included all the amenities in a room like a bed, desk, lamp, stool, shelf, and locker. The entire kit packs away neatly into a roller trunk along with a collection of elbow lamps and flat-pack puzzle pieces that can be used to construct furnishings with which to turn the space into a basic hotel room. The most interesting part about Hotello is the fact that the flat pack pieces can be used to build a number of configurations, such as a double bed, a desk, a table or a chair, so it makes up for its translucent lack of privacy with a degree of versatility. The concept was presented at the Fuorisalone 2013 as part of Milan Design Week.
