The Membrane Lounge Chair designed by\u00a0Benjamin Hubert\u00a0for\u00a0Classicon\u00a0is an ultra lightweight modular chair made from \u00a0a combination of aluminium & steel framework wrapped in a 3D-woven textile cover with integrated seat pads, fastened with zips. The design makes minimalist use of\u00a0polyurethane foam compared to other lounge chairs, which reduces the carbon footprint to a great degree.<\/p>\n

“The chair stems from the studio\u2019s materials driven, process led, industrial design approach, and research into the construction of tents and sports products with a focus on space frames and stretched textile.” says Benjamin Hubert. “The combination of metal frame and padded textile allows Membrane to use a minimal amount of polyurethane foam \u2013 a conventional armchair would be covered almost entirely with foam \u2013 therefore reducing the carbon footprint of this type of product”<\/p>\n

About Benjamin Hubert:<\/em><\/p>\n

Benjamin Hubert studied Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University and graduated with distinction in 2006.<\/p>\n

In 2007 he founded the Benjamin Hubert Design Studio in London, with a focus on designing furniture and lamps in cooperation with international manufacturers based in Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n

In every design project he first carefully examines and challenges the materials and production processes used. Collaboration with a tight network of craftsmen, model shops and manufacturers serves Benjamin Hubert and his team as a direct source of inspiration.<\/p>\n

Hubert designs timeless objects that do not follow trends but are based instead on a close analysis of usage habits, materials and sustainability and are hence developed in a process of visual reduction. The studio devotes itself to a broad range of projects, from one-offs or limited edition pieces to series-produced consumer items. Its clients include Magis, Authentics, Fabbian, Kundalini and Casamania.<\/p>\n

Benjamin Hubert\u2019s work has received international critical and media acclaim and has been widely exhibited and recognised with various awards including Design of the Year (British Design Awards 2010), Best Product (100% Design \/ blueprint awards 2009), Homes and Gardens Young Designer of the Year (Design Classic Awards 2010) and the EDIDA Award in 2010 as International Young Designer of the Year.<\/p>\n
