Pont de Singe by French artist Olivier Grossetête

‘Pont de Singe’, which in French means ‘Monkey Bridge’, is a surreal floating wooden bridge created by French artist in air by three large helium balloons.. Located over a lake in the Japanese garden at Tatton Park in Cheshire in north-west England, the rope bridge itself is suspended in the air by three large helium balloons. The structure comprised of a long rope bridge made of cedar wood held aloft by three helium-filled balloons. The ends of the bridge were left to trail in the water. “The goal of the design wasn’t functionality” says Olivier Grossetête. ” The goal was to recall the power of daydreams and their ability to transform dreams into reality..My artistic work tries to make alive the poetry and dreams within our everyday life”.

While the first impression of ‘Pont de Singe’ is fascinating & instantly evokes a strong desire to cross the waters using the bridge, visitors at the biennial were not allowed to do so. Though the construction clearly makes it’s evident that the bridge isn’t functional, Grossetête stated that it would be theoretically strong enough to hold the weight of a single person. Functional or not, I surely feel like giving it a shot! And you??
