The winners of the 2013\u00a0\u00a0Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition Winners \u00a0were announced just this past month, on the 19 March 2013.<\/p>\n

This award program is run by Sony markets from across 23 different countries.\u00a0 Its’\u00a0 goal is to search for the best image by an amateur photographer. This year, as there is every year, there\u00a0 is an enormous variety chosen by local judges.\u00a0\u00a0 They include everything from action shots steeped in high energy, to simplistic\u00a0 images of families, to futuristic ones.<\/p>\n

Having just purchased my Cannon T3i, and having\u00a0 ventured out to the Botanical Gardens of Montreal to snap photos at the Butterfly exhibition \u00a0I must say I am in awe of some of the winning fast paced images.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.\u00a0 \u00a0The variety of the winning scenes and how they may have been chosen proves nothing if not that.<\/p>\n

My personal favorites are the winners of \u00a0Wei-Seng-Chen \u00a0of\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Malaysia <\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Chun-Chun<\/strong>g of\u00a0Taiwan. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0 am awed by the action \u00a0 caught in the snap of a millisecond in both of these high energy images.\u00a0\u00a0 Another favorite is \u00a0 Manny-Fajutag<\/strong> of the Philippines<\/strong> which \u00a0evokes a longing to to travel even more and soak up the four corners of the earth.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition, curated by Michael Benson, will be\u00a0 showcasing the winning and shortlisted photographers from this\u00a0 competition. \u00a0It’s images span \u00a0\u00a0photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography.<\/p>\n

All category winners will receive a Sony A77 and will have their images exhibited at Somerset House, London, from 26 April \u2013 12 May as part of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition. \u00a0The photographs will also be published in the 2013 edition of the Sony World Photography Awards book.<\/p>\n
