Manufactured for Johnson Trading Gallery<\/a> in New York, the ‘Fold Chair’ is designed by London based designer Simon Hasan. The chair was designed in the same year as the ‘Archiboiled chair’ which was a reinterpretation of the original Archibald chair designed by French designer Jean-Marie Massaud<\/a> commissioned by high end furniture brand Poltrona Frau<\/a> and Wallpaper magazine<\/a>. The chair consists of a glass reinforced polyester leather seating with a\u00a0 metal frame made from steel or brass. I love the minimalist design approach and the bold, raw look & feel. I think the idea of throwing a leather piece onto the chair to form the seat, hand-rest and the backrest is simply brilliant. I also love the fact that the same design concept can have different forms depending on the way the leather has been placed on it, creating an individual character of it’s own.<\/p>\n

About Designer Simon Hasan:<\/p>\n

Simon Hasan works in the territory between ancient Crafts processes and industrial design.\u00a0His work is imbued with a richness and texture borne from the combined use of techniques and materials from these two contradictory worlds. Hasan\u2019s approach can best be described as a type of Design Archaeology; a combination of\u00a0historical research and hands-on material experimentation. The goal is to nurture compelling and relevant outcomes for any given context.\u00a0Avoiding a particular aesthetic style, Hasan\u2019s distinctive work often layers materials, processes and textures to create long-lasting objects with a story to tell.<\/p>\n

Hasan\u2019s work is exhibited internationally, and he continues to work on commercial and private\u00a0commissions, most recently with Fendi<\/a> and Danish textiles brand, Kvadrat<\/a>. He was part of the Design Museum\u2019s Designers in Residence program, and his mannequins for Fendi won a Wallpaper* Design Award in 2012.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
