Traffic signal lighting in Istanbul designed by Art Lebedev Studio
Art Lebedev Studio was commissioned to design an unique signal light by Istanbul’s reputed transport company ISBAK and the Istanbul city authorities. The designers created a state of the art design which is shaped like an exclamation mark which also represents an established sign calling for attention and emphasizing on something particular.
The light has been designed with panels based on the PHOLED (phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode) technology which helps in reducing electricity consumption to a great extent. The mount has a pivot and adjustable arm’s length, which allows you to rotate or tilt the body. The coolest thing about this design, is that it is equipped with a system that can detect visually impaired and handicapped pedestrians. It uses special icons on the signal panel to warn drivers when such persons approach the crossing. There is also a sound signal for visually impaired that also alerts other pedestrians and drivers.
