A few weeks back we featured ‘The Boneyard Project‘ whereby the artist used aircraft parts as a canvas to paint some cool artwork. But have you ever heard of functional furniture pieces from junk airplane parts?  MotoArt designs is a California based design studio which creates  high quality corporate and home furniture made from vintage airplane parts.  They have created some amazing upcycled furniture pieces like beds, bars, office furniture and sculptures out of  scrap airplane parts. The design studio was founded by Donovan Fell and Dave Hall, who left a steady job at Disney to realize his dream project. Today the company makes around $2 million a year and their pieces sell from anywhere between $100 to $60,000 with a clientele which consists of celebrities and huge corporations like Boeing and Microsoft.

Let’s take a look at some of their designs below:

Available in multiple finishes including mirror polished.

The Lockheed V Shaped C130 Conference Table A Veritable, Tour De Force

Emanating from an acute, 17-degree angle, this V-shaped conference table provides the perfect vantage point from which to launch your next meeting. MotoArt’s latest tribute to aviation history is also their largest fabricated piece to date.It was fabricated from two, 24 foot-long full-length outer wing flaps of the C130 Hercules. After nearly 500 man-hours of painstaking attention to detail went into it, this one-of-a-kind prototype, C130A Conference Table made a triumphant return to base as it was delivered to Lockheed Martin Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

 C-119 Aileron Conference Table

“This exquisite conference table is built using two ailerons from the C-119 aircraft. The original cloth is removed to expose the intricately detailed skeletal structure within. The two ailerons are tapered and assembled to achieve comfortable leg space and to create a width suitable for large conference rooms. The legs are constructed of bamboo, a natural, renewable resource, when combined with the recycled aluminum frames grants this beauty as a truly “green” example of executive decor. The legs are custom made in our studios and epoxy painted to resist scuffing and can be painted the color of your choice. The bottom of the legs are capped off with 3/8” aluminum plates creating a striking line at the floor. The view from the top affords a look into the complicated engineering of the table, with all horizontal pieces bearing “lightness” holes stamped into the aluminum. The piece, as shown, is powder coated with our metallic orange option; other colors are available or you can choose the naked mirror finish with clear coating. Topped off with a ½” tempered glass sheet, your corporate logo can be added to the underside of the glass to synthesize your corporate brand with a symbol of extreme fortitude.”

B-25 Mitchell Bomber Airplane Desk

“This limited edition desk is sleek in design and rich in aviation history. The aluminum frame, once covered in cloth, is exposed to reveal design details of the elevators and rudders used to form this fine piece of executive furniture. The desk surface is ½” tempered glass with wooden legs that can be stained or clear coated as you prefer. Leave the surface clear powder coated as pictured or choose from a variety of powder coatings in several striking colors.”
