I’m a big fan of cargotecture and this is a great example of putting containers to use in a larger scale. I’ve seen quite a few projects of these large metal skeletons either used as off-grid cabins or pop-up stores and restaurants. Although it is true that nobody tried to use them for such ambitious project for people in need there are several Canadian companies on the market with their modifications of shipping containers.
The biggest problem is not that of structural integrity. Containers are made for stacking on top of each other and even some cutouts shouldn’t do so much harm. But there’s certain concern about vertical insulation because it significantly reduces the perception of already tight living space.
